A production of The History Channel, this is two parts of a four part series on how some drugs became illegal, and the legal twists and turns since then. This first 45 minutes concentrates on marijuana, but covers speed too, then the last 45 minutes covers opium and heroin.

"GRASS" the movie. A Ron Mann film, narrated by Woody Harrelson... This feature length film takes a comprehensive look at cannabis, and has classic clips and rare footage in a historical look at cannabis and how it was made illegal. This is a great film.

The Hempen Road; A Cascadian Journey (1997) The Hempen Road; A Cascadian Journey (1997) "The Hempen Road: A Cascadian Journey" examines the blossoming industrial hemp scene in the Pacific NW in 1996. Dave Olson takes viewers on a road trip to meet all the hemp industry pioneers from Vancouver, BC to Eugene, Oregon. This 85 minute documentary was released in 1997.

The Emperor of Hemp (1 hour) A great documentary of Jack Herer, author of a seminal book for the world hemp movement, The Emperor Wears No Clothes. This documentary also covers how marijuana was criminalized and the state of the movement today. 1999.

This well-done documentary talks about the situation with cannabis in Holland and tips on how to grow cannabis. This was written by cannabis cultivation experts. (1996)

Getting High: The History of LSD (45 minutes) From The History Channel. History's mysteries. Greece, the middle ages, Albert Hoffman's discovery, the CIA's tests, to Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey and the world. (2000)

 

"Hemp Revolution" by Australian producer Anthony Clarke, 1996, 75 minutes.
This feature-length film shows industrial hemp and cannabis around the world. Another great documentary. The 75-minute film focuses on cannabis, industrial hemp and the economic and environmental potential of this ancient crop.

 

"Let My People Grow" by Seven Thunders Productions, 1994, 60 minutes.
A 1994 video version of Jack Herer's book, "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" with OCTA chief petitioner Bill Conde, Jack Herer, Chris Conrad, Dennis Peron, Tom Hayden, and lots more people and clips from inside the hemp movement. Several original recreations of US colonial patriots discussing hemp.

"Sex, Drugs & Democracy", 1994, 87 minutes.
This feature-length 87-minute film shows how the Netherlands' attitude of tolerance works with sex, drugs and democracy, resulting in a healthier society and population. The movie, which broke records for box office sales for a documentary in cinemas in the USA, shows both the cannabis and hemp industries, and contains graphic scenes from the Dutch sex industry.

 

"Hemp for Victory" by the US Government, 1943, 14 minutes.
The US government's propaganda piece to restore hemp to help the war effort in World War II. After wiping out the hemp industry and agriculture both before and during the Great Depression, and with federal "marijuana" prohibition implemented in 1937 to help the petrochemical industry, cotton-growing states, and others, US need for fiber during WW II forces the USDA to re-introduce hemp to farmers with this film in 1943.

 

"A Look at Hemp" from PBS series "The 90's", 1991, 60 minutes.
This original 1990 hemp documentary examines the new born US emerging "industrial hemp scene" with Chris Conrad/Johnny Hempseed, Wavy Gravy, Gatewood Galbraith of Kentucky, NORML's then director Don Fiedler, and many more, plus a lot of other neat little clips. There are some very surrealistic sequences.

YIPPIE! "Smoke-In: The Movement to Legalize Marijuana", 1977, 20 minutes.
This rare archive of videos includes San Francisco's 1966 "Be In," and many other famous protests and smoke-ins organized by the Yippie!s. The show features Dennis Peron in 1976, Dana Beale, Keith Stroup, and music by Blue Cheer and more.

 

"Compassionate Use" by Kent Sugnet, Summer 1996, 20 minutes.
This short documentary by Kent Sugnet shows the patients of the San Francisco Cannabis Buyers Club and the controversy surrounding the club. The film focuses on 3 patients.

 

"War on the Sick: Proposition 215 and the Struggle for Victory" by Mira Ingram, 1996.
This documentary focuses on the bust of the San Francisco Cannabis Buyers Club and the protests concerning it and the ultimate victory party at the CBC. This film takes us inside the CBC and on the streets in dramatic protests, and into the CBC on the night of the Prop 215 victory.
